In Hawaii, ‘Waimea’ means sacred water. And for a few precious
days over summer every year, the waters of Waimea Bay turn a clear,
ethereal, sacred blue. It never fails to enchant me, which is why I
named my gallery Waimea Blue. And why I have made a career out of
celebrating the beauty of the ocean—including bringing that
aesthetic charm into other people’s homes.
I’m Akima Kai, a gallery owner, ocean photographer, wood artist and art
consultant. My gallery is based in Haleiwa on Oahu’s North Shore
and I have spent years building relationships with talented local
artists. I can bring their vision of the island’s peaceful blue
ocean, wild waves, and incredible wildlife into every corner of your
living space.

This includes consulting with you to create signature looks and themes for each room, so that all of your artworks enhance one other. Most importantly, I’ll make sure that you find art that expresses your taste, lifestyle, and design aesthetic.
Hawaii is a thriving hub of creativity. Thanks to my close relationships with many local artists, I can source all kinds of striking island art for you. These may include surfboard art, wood and resin art, original painting, photography prints, and classic travel posters. From tranquil white beaches, to rainbow-colored tropical birds and to lava-filled volcanoes, you can express every facet of Hawaii in your home.
What’s more, as a certified color therapist I can color-coordinate each piece of art with your decor—and shades to complement your wellbeing.

When I’m not diving deep underwater to photograph a perfect moment with a dolphin, I’m meeting artists all over Hawaii and filling my North Shore gallery with their works. Mother Nature is my best friend and the ocean feels like my natural home. I got my first underwater camera in 1999 and haven’t looked back. As a freediver, I love exploring marine life and the world below the waves. After living everywhere from Japan to Australia to New Zealand, I finally found my destiny in Hawaii. With my art consultancy, I can offer you a personal service that is responsive, intuitive, and honest.
